What is MPLS?
Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a type of data-carrying technique for high-performance telecommunications networks. This network architecture used a labeling system for the data packets. The packets are rounted most efficiently throughout the network based upon these labels. So for example, voice can be route differently with higher priority than streaming video across the network. This network is used for multi-site configurations and not required for a business with a single site. Other options for Multi-site include Point2Point (P2P), Virtual Private Network (VPN), Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS), Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) as well as other options.
